How to Make a Dutch Baby (German Pancake)
I tried a few dutch baby recipes, but they just didn’t have enough to it for my family. We are constantly active and work hard on our off grid homestead. We need a breakfast that is going to stick to the ribs and fuel us throughout the day.
I played around with a few different recipes, and I just decided to make up my own. I wanted something that was hearty, packed with protein, and delicious enough that my toddler would WANT to eat it.
Ingredients
1 Cup of Flour
1 tsp of Salt
6 Eggs
1 Cup of Milk
1/4 Cup of Sugar
2 Tbsp of Vanilla
2 Tbsp of Butter

How to Make
Add all ingredients, EXCEPT butter to a bowl.
Whisk vigorously for about 30 seconds to incorporate some air.
Heat cast iron skillet or ceramic baking dish in oven, while it preheats to 450.
Once pan is heated, add butter to hot pan and let butter melt.
Pour dutch baby mix into the hot pan with the melted butter.
DO NOT STIR.
Gently place the hot pan back into the oven.
Bake at 450 for 12-15 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and the center is firm.
Toppings
Top this dutch baby with maple syrup, fresh fruit, or a fruit sauce. One of my favorite hacks is to make a jam sauce. I use equal parts jam and water, simmer on stove until it comes together and makes a sauce. Drizzle over the top for a delicious, easy topping.
